Meet Lulu!

Lulu is a tiny Pomeranian with a huge journey ahead of her. At just 5 years old, she has spent most of her life sheltered from the world. She was never properly socialized or trained, lived exclusively indoors, had never worn a collar or walked on a leash, and wasn’t taken outside to explore or even go to the bathroom. Because of this, nearly everything is new to her.

When Lulu arrived in our care, she was quite matted and some of the mats pulled painfully on her skin, leaving her understandably sensitive to handling. With patience, kindness, and consistency, she’s learning that people can be trusted and that handling doesn’t have to be uncomfortable.

Lulu has already made wonderful progress. She is learning to wear a collar, is gaining confidence walking on a leash, and is discovering that going outside can actually be enjoyable. She continues to improve with her house training as she transitions away from using pee pads.

When Lulu feels frightened or overwhelmed, she has learned to protect herself by snapping. Because of this, she is looking for an experienced, confident guardian who understands fearful dogs and is committed to continuing the positive reinforcement training she’s already receiving. She needs someone who will see her as a dog-not a tiny accessory-and help her build confidence through structure, routine, and patience.

Lulu is not suited to a home with children. She is also quite reactive to other dogs and is not a candidate for dog parks or busy social settings. Her ideal home will be calm, predictable, and committed to helping her succeed at her own pace. She bonds very quickly with people she trusts and is very sweet and loves to snuggle!

For the right person, Lulu will be an incredibly rewarding companion. Watching her experience the world for the first time and celebrate each new success has been truly special. *Side note: the more you add to your application about you and what you are looking for in a canine companion, the better we can match animals with adopters!

PLEASE NOTE: This dog is located on the Sunshine Coast and travel via BC Ferries is required to adopt. Appointments are preferred to adopt one of our animals. Please speak with shelter staff prior to visiting our branch.
