Meet Amigo! This beautiful orange and black lizard canary is just over a year old. He is an active, curious young bird with a big personality and a lovely singing voice. He is looking for a home that can offer him space, enrichment, and companionship.

Amigo would thrive in a spacious flight cage or a large aviary with other canaries. Canaries are often misunderstood as solitary birds, but they are social animals that do best when they are able to interact with their own kind in a well planned environment. With the right setup, they enjoy flock life and show many natural social behaviours.

A successful flock environment for Amigo would include plenty of room for birds to move freely, multiple food and water stations to reduce competition, natural perches, and areas where he can retreat and feel secure. Careful, gradual introductions are also important when integrating him into an established group, and his future home should be comfortable observing flock dynamics and adjusting as needed, especially during more hormonal or seasonal periods.

Amigo also enjoys enrichment and foraging opportunities. While canaries are sometimes thought of as birds that do not need or enjoy toys, Amigo shows this is not true. He particularly likes toys filled with paper shreds or pieces of hay that he can pull apart and explore. These activities help keep him active, engaged, and mentally stimulated.

Canaries can live 10+ years in captivity with good care, so Amigo is looking for a long term home committed to his wellbeing, including proper nutrition, enrichment, and veterinary care.

Canaries are intelligent, sensitive birds that deserve thoughtful care, enrichment, and respect just like any other companion animal. Amigo is hoping to find a home that understands this and is excited to give him a stimulating, social environment where he can truly thrive.
