Meet Ruger!

Ruger is an energetic blue heeler who is ready to find an active family to call his own. This handsome boy is looking for someone who enjoys getting outside, exploring new places, and keeping up with his adventurous spirit.

We just met, but so far he enjoys a cuddle and we have been told he demands these often. He will happily tell you by nudging your arm and squeeze right in.

Like many heelers, Ruger is a smart and vocal guy who loves to share his thoughts. Because he enjoys using his voice, he may not be the best fit for a home with close neighbours. He also has a strong herding instinct and enjoys chasing moving objects like cars, bikes, and squirrels, so his new family will need to help him channel these instincts through training, enrichment, and appropriate activities. He has not shown any herding/nipping tendencies with people.

Ruger enjoys spending time with other dogs and has lived with children before, where he was gentle and affectionate. When meeting new people, he can be a little unsure at first, but with a few treats and a little patience, he quickly warms up and is ready to become your best friend.

Ruger would thrive with a family who understands the unique needs of a heeler and is excited to provide him with plenty of exercise, mental stimulation, training, and love. If you’re looking for an adventurous companion with a big personality and an even bigger heart, Ruger may be the perfect match!

If you think you would be a good fit for Ruger, come visit him any day 1-5pm at the Maple Ridge BC SPCA. We will require you to fill out the pre adoption questionnaire to ensure its a good fit. All animals are first come first considered.
