This sweet guy is a wallflower at first, but once he gets settled in, his upbeat and loving nature comes out, and he is ready to play and snuggle! Bud came from a home where he didn’t meet a whole lot of people or experience much of the world, and where negative experiences with strangers shaped part of his development.

However, we do know that despite this, he enjoyed having an animal companion by his side to guide him through life’s unsure moments, so he may benefit by having another doggy-friend by his side. While he is still learning the world and getting used to making new friends outside of his bubble, his sweet-natured heart makes him an easy guy to love.

Bud is believed to be a Red Heeler/Hound/German Shepherd mix, making him a combination of two large working breeds. He is very intelligent, and has high needs when it comes to play, exercise, and mental stimulation. His breed tendencies can also make him apprehensive of strangers and exceptionally loyal.

Potential adopters will need to be willing to create a safe space for Bud, while also encouraging him to enjoy new experiences. He is a nervous fella, and he is not interested in people rushing in to pet him, so he’ll need guardians willing to advocate for his boundaries. Due to Bud’s past, he will need an adopter who understands the sometimes more complex needs of a fearful dog, and that Bud may always have a more reserved nature about him.

This kind, gentle boy needs room to roam and a comfy place outside to enjoy some fresh air. His future guardians will need to be dog savvy people who can accommodate his social needs.
