Meet Duke!

A 4-year-old Akita with a big heart and an even bigger personality. This happy boy loves to play and brings a joyful energy wherever he goes. Duke is currently on the mend after undergoing surgery to remove a collar that had become stuck in his neck. He’s healing well and continues to improve every day, though he will still need a few follow-up vet visits to ensure a full recovery.

Despite everything he’s been through, Duke remains playful, affectionate, and full of life. He can become excited and doesn’t always know his size, so he would do best in a home without small children, though he could likely do well with older kids/teens who can comfortably handle his enthusiasm!

Duke is looking for a loving home that can give him the care he needs while he finishes healing. If you’re looking for a resilient, cheerful companion who’s ready to start his next chapter, Duke might just be your perfect match.

We welcome all applicants, though prior experience with Akitas or dogs in general is considered a plus!

Do you think you could be Duke’s person? Here is how to find out:

1.) Visit our centre to meet this pet during adoption viewings Friday to Wednesday noon to 3pm, learn more about their ideal match, and apply to adopt in person; or
2.)Submit an online application adopt.spca.bc.ca and staff will contact the first suitable adopter to set-up a visit! Kindly note that due to the high number of applications and the availability of walk-in adoptions an online applicant would have to be available to come in for a meet within 24 hrs.

*Side note: the more you add to your application about you and what you are looking for in a canine companion, the better we can match animals with adopters!
