Meet Gus!

Gus is a 3-year-old Havanese with a sweet, sensitive, and slightly fearful nature. He came into our care after the passing of his beloved owner and is now looking for a quiet home where he can feel safe and secure again.

Gus is calm and affectionate when he’s with his person. He thrives on companionship and will happily settle by your side, making him a wonderful match for someone who is home most of the time. While he enjoys being near his people, Gus doesn’t appear to be a particularly cuddly dog. If you’re looking for a lap dog who loves constant snuggle time, he may not be the right fit-but he will still form a strong, loyal bond in his own quiet way.

Gus is still working on his house training. He needs someone who is understanding of accidents and can take him outside often.

Gus does experience separation anxiety and becomes very nervous when left alone, so he’s best suited to a home where he won’t have to spend much time by himself.

He can also be unsure during exciting moments, like when people come home or when visitors arrive, and may have small accidents when he gets overwhelmed. With patience and a predictable routine, he will gain confidence and feel more comfortable.

Gus has a playful side too-when he gets excited, he may gently nip at your toes as a quirky way of engaging.

Having lived a quiet life, Gus would do best in a calm, low-activity home. A busy household wouldn’t be the right fit for him, and he would likely do best in an adult-only home.
