Meet Marge
ADOPTION FEE: $400
Meet Marge, a 30 y/o Military macaw with a huge personality and a lot to say. She’s silly, sassy, extremely loud, and deeply devoted to her humans. Marge came into care after her previous owner could no longer meet her needs. She lived without toys or proper enrichment, which led to stress-related feather mutilation. This behavior, often a coping mechanism, may improve with care, but it may never fully go away.
Due to limited space and stimulation in her old home, Marge’s wing muscles have atrophied. She currently can’t fly well and may never regain full flight, but she is a determined climber. Her future home must support her in rebuilding strength through climbing and safe, short flights, all at her own pace.
Military macaws are highly intelligent, social, and can live for decades. Marge could live another 60+ years. Adopting her means making a lifelong commitment and having a plan should she outlive you. She requires daily interaction and stimulation, so she is not suited to someone who works long hours or lives in an apartment. Her vocalizations are loud and frequent.
We’re seeking an experienced home for Marge. First time large parrot guardians will not be considered. Applicants must have prior experience with large parrots, and understand the serious responsibility involved. If other large parrots are in the home, a meet and greet will be required.
Marge has been to a vet and is in okay health. With the right diet, enrichment, and consistent care, she has every chance to thrive. She deserves a home that will prioritize her emotional and physical well-being. Marge is not a novelty, she’s a commitment. If you can offer her the forever home she deserves, we want to hear from you.
***Although the BC SPCA opposes the keeping of exotic animals as pets because it is challenging, if not impossible, to provide them with everything they need to thrive, Marge found her way into the care of the BC SPCA and is now looking for an experienced home that can commit to supporting her special needs.***
