Meet Cubby!

When Cubby first arrived as a stray, we had no idea just how elusive this mysterious boy would be. In fact, on the day of his intake, Cubby pulled a disappearing act – right into our ceiling. Yes, the ceiling. He found a way up there and stayed hidden for weeks, becoming a bit of a legend around the shelter.

Determined to keep him safe and comfortable while he figured things out on his own time, our staff set up food, water, and even a litter box by carefully removing ceiling panels. Every day became a routine of quiet care and patient waiting. Eventually, we were able to safely bring Cubby back down, and that’s when his next chapter began.

At first, Cubby was understandably shut down. The world was big, loud, and a little too much. But we quickly discovered the way to his heart: food. This guy has quite an appetite! Bit by bit, with the help of tempting treats and gentle, consistent care, Cubby began to open up.

Now, he greets his favorite staff members with cautious curiosity and a hopeful look when it’s mealtime. He may still be shy when meeting new people, but the progress he’s made has been incredible.

Cubby is now ready to find his forever home, but it will need to be the right one. He’s looking for a patient, understanding adopter who’s willing to let him adjust at his own pace. Because of his shy nature, Cubby will need to meet his potential family a few times before heading home, to ensure he feels safe and secure when that day comes.

If you believe that trust is earned and not rushed, and you’re the kind of person who understands the quiet joy of seeing a shy cat blossom, Cubby might just be your perfect match. Come meet the cat who once lived in the ceiling – he’s got a big heart, a bigger appetite, and he’s finally ready to come home.

Do you think you could be Cubby’s person? Here’s how to find out:

1.) Visit our centre to meet this pet during adoption viewings Friday to Wednesday noon to 3pm, learn more about their ideal match, and apply to adopt in person; or
2.)Submit an online application adopt.spca.bc.ca and staff will contact the first suitable adopter to set-up a visit! Kindly note that due to the high number of applications and the availability of walk-in adoptions an online applicant would have to be available to come in for a meet within 24 hrs.
