Balto is incredibly smart and picks up new training quickly, making him a joy to work with. His friendly, goofy demeanor has earned him the title of staff and volunteer favorite, especially when it comes to his walks – he’s a great companion on the trail! He loves the water and will try to fetch the biggest stick. He would be a super adventure partner.

Although Balto is a social and loving dog, he is dog selective, which means he’d thrive best in a home where he’s the only pet. He can get a little over-excited when meeting new dogs in public, but he’s a quick learner and responds well when asked to sit and wait while other dogs pass by.

With his mix of Husky and Akita traits, Balto has plenty of energy and would be an amazing running or hiking buddy! He needs an active home that can provide him with both the mental and physical exercise he craves to keep him happy and healthy.

Balto does experience some separation anxiety, so he’d do best in a home where there are multiple household members or someone who works from home. He loves being around people and will thrive in a family where he’s not left alone for long periods of time.
