Meet Ginger!

Ginger is lovely little palomino mare. This girl stands approximately 14.3-15hh and is guessed to be around 12-14yrs of age. With minimal history and no documentation regarding breed or age, we are guessing she’s a possible solid coloured Appaloosa mare. Ginger came into care last spring when she was abandoned by her owner, she was adopted out this fall and due to no fault of her own, has found herself back on the search for her forever home.

Gingers ideal home has both experience and patience. Ginger is considered green broke to ride and would thrive with an owner willing to put the time into her to allow her to truly understand the requests being asked. This little mare will require an owner/handler with confidence and some experience. A confident intermediate would do the trick however she is not suited for a beginner at this time. She ties, she loads, she lunges and she accepts a rider walk/trot. (Canter not yet tried due to her level of training at the walk and the trot). She understands the snaffle bit as well as the bosal. This mare is cinchy to tack up and has been kicky with lifting hind feet. Her arthritically fused hocks limit her mobility however we are working at better manners regarding a slow and gentle picking up of feet. She has already shown great improvement. Saddling is a work in progress, this may take more time however we believe she will also learn to accept this process with patience and trust.

She has sidebones (a condition where bony formations form on the cartilage of the coffin bone) and does best with front shoes. She also had borderline test results for PPID – because of this, it is recommended she be maintained on a low sugar diet and is not suited to free choice feeding programs.

Although she is currently sound, she may need more supportive care with higher levels of work and may only be suitable for light riding. She has been cleared for “limited” work with no other maintenance at this time. She is not a performance horse prospect, however she will gladly head down the trail, around the arena or to fun local club style shows and games days in time.

Ginger is UTD on vaccinations, dental, worming and farrier care.
