Meet Heidi!

Heidi arrived in our care as a stray, and she is now on the search for her forever home. She is a sweet but timid dog who will need a lot of patience and understanding to help her feel safe and comfortable. With her trusted people, Heidi is affectionate and enjoys gentle pets and scratches. However, she can be quite nervous in new environments and may require some time to adjust.

Heidi is learning to walk on a leash and will benefit from continued training in this area. While she is learning to walk on leash, Heidi’s ideal home would have a safe and secure yard for her to spend time in, as she loves being outdoors. She can be barrier reactive once she feels settled in her space, so a calm and patient approach is essential. Heidi has recovered from a hip injury and is looking for adopters that will be able to help her manage any future pain with medication as needed and do preventative care in her new home. Although she does not currently have arthritis, as she ages, her adopters will need to be mindful and monitor early signs of arthritis to prevent it from progressing quickly.

During her time with us, Heidi has formed a special bond with Henry, another dog in our care. They enjoy each other’s company and Heidi appears more confident and relaxed when Henry is around. Ideally, Heidi and Henry would love to be adopted together, as they support each other well. If adopting both isn’t possible, Heidi might do well in a home with another calm and gentle canine friend, given a proper introduction.

Heidi needs a loving and patient family who can help build her confidence and provide the care she needs. A quiet home with a calm environment and another gentle dog, or even just a very understanding family, would be ideal. If you have the time and patience to help Heidi overcome her shyness and assist in her recovery, she will surely reward you with her sweet and loving nature. ❤️‍🩹

Do you think you could be Heidi’s person? Here are some ways to find out:

1.) Visit our centre to meet this pet during adoption viewings Friday to Wednesday noon to 3pm, learn more about their ideal match, and apply to adopt in person; or

2.) Submit an online application adopt.spca.bc.ca and staff will contact the first suitable adopter to set-up a visit! Kindly note that due to the high number of applications and the availability of walk-in adoptions an online applicant would have to be available to come in for a meet within 24 hrs.
