Meet Juniper

Add to favourites

Juniper is a buckskin mare who is in her mid-teens. She’s a tough gal, ready for a new life after being abandoned by her previous owner. She’s halter trained, leads well, and we believe she has a history under saddle but have not tested her thoroughly yet. She can be a bit pushy sometimes, so an experienced owner comfortable working with mares who can be a bit moody is important. Although she is just getting started working under saddle again, we think she would likely be suitable for light to moderate work once she regains her fitness.

Juniper was let down by people in the past. We can tell she wants to trust again, and would do best working with just one rider/handler so she can bond and connect. She seems to be more comfortable with women, so a female rider may be best, but is not a requirement.

Juniper has been diagnosed with PPID and is a little plumper than she should be! She is on a weight loss plan including a limited, low sugar diet and being treated with Precend (peroglide). She will need to have her bloodwork retested come fall to ensure the medication is working well for her. Her x-rays show she has had some level of ongoing chronic laminitic inflammation in her front feet. Because of this, she is not suited to pasture/grass turnout and needs a low sugar diet, consistent farrier work to keep her feeling her best and may need support with pain medication from time to time.

She is up to date on vaccines, teeth and feet.
