Meet Tikka

Add to favourites

Looking to add a snuggly, affectionate companion to your family? Meet Tikka! Tikka was picked up as a stray, and clearly didn’t have the easiest start to life. Although she was emaciated, peppered with old scars, and in dire need of a bath, she came into the SPCA with an open heart and nothing but love to give! She is still working on getting to a healthy weight, and will need a family that is committed to keeping her on track. Tikka’s favourite place is right by your side, and she would be a great coworker for a work-from-home or pet-friendly workplace. She loves to run and play, but when she is overexcited she does tend to nip at ankles and get a little boisterous, so she would not be a great fit for a home with small children. She gets along well with most other dogs, so long as they have a calm, slow introduction, but we don’t know how she feels about feline friends yet. She would be happy to live in a house or an apartment, just so long as she gets plenty of walks and time to show off her zoomies!

Note from recent foster:
Tikka is a very affectionate and loving dog who just wants to cuddle with you on the couch and lick your face and give you kisses all the time. She is very smart and she learns commands easily. She knows her house manners and does not bite on furniture however she still needs some work on her potty-training by giving her frequent walks and giving her a treat after she goes potty but she knows to hold it in overnight now (quick learner!). She can act somewhat nervous around other dogs her own size and will shy away from those dogs. She shows some aggression to some smaller dogs and should be trained out of her in a controlled environment and with many treats. Tikka is also very food motivated and also has a very good sense of smell. She can smell food from far away during walks and will eat anything she can find on the ground. You will need to be careful during walks when she gets a whiff of something because it may be a chicken bone and she shouldn’t be eating that! She’s getting better at the “drop it” command however and should be trained more so she doesn’t eat random things on the ground.

Does Tikka sound like the girl of your dreams? Come visit her at the Vancouver Community Animal Centre, or submit an adoption application at https://spca.bc.ca/survey/dog-adoption-application-vancouver/.
