Meet Moose
Meet Moose!! This sweet but timid guy came to us with his brother Sue and is now searching for a home away from the business of city life. He is a mix of livestock guardian breeds, has an exceptionally large personality, and would love to be able to roam and protect a big yard or family farm.
Moose is a big loveable guy who stomps around the play yard with a huge smile on his face, genuinely wanting to play with humans but he just isn’t quite sure how to yet. He will take toys & treats from our hands but he would definitely prefer you watch him toss his things in the air from a safe-for-him distance. He is also the smartest guy on the property at any given time… pharmaceutical cheese balls are no match for him!
He is very sure what he wants & he isn’t afraid to let you know that he would prefer to drink water out of a running hose than his own water dish. His favourite pass time is watching the birds fly high in the sky on a clear, sunny day. He has also proven to be very vocal – frequently barking to get whatever it is he wants, or even just at the people passing by. While this can be harmless and quirky during the day, it can prove to be quite a challenge during the night hours. We would recommend having adequate space between his living quarters, your house, and your neighbors so as not to disturb the peace.
We believe that Moose would do best with a dog companion that matches his usually calm energy. While he enjoys the company dogs and humans, he does tend to get overwhelmed and overstimulated when he is faced with more energy than he knows how to respond to.
Since EVERYTHING is new with these guys, you can be sure that they are constantly wondering what the world around them has to offer. Moose has not experienced walking on a leash in his previous life, so we are currently working on getting them comfortable wearing a collar as we work towards this goal. He is wary of human touch, too. We cannot yet give him scritches & scratches without his consent but we are continuously working on it and are confident that in due time, he will learn to appreciate the love and affection that humans can provide him. Future adopters will need to continue working with an Animal Kind trainer to ensure Moose continues to progress with confidence.
Even though he has had a rough start to life and will undoubtedly be a challenge, we have seen how much love he has to give and are amazed at how willing he is to give us strangers a chance at getting to love him. If you feel you may have the time, patience and space to give these two big pups a home, please submit your online application or reach out to the Abbotsford SPCA to chat.
