Meet Diesel

Add to favourites

Say hello to our not-so-little friend Diesel!

This fabulous fella has been waiting so patiently for his people to discover him, we can’t seem to understand how nobody has snatched him up yet!
Diesel is the definition of gentle giant! Sitting at a whopping 140 lbs, this boy isn’t your average lap dog, and has earned the loving title of horse dog!
Diesel loves to give you his paw – whether it’s for snacks or pets, he knows just how to work the system to get what he wants. He’s a great eater, and has found himself needing to shed a few pounds off. We use slow feeders and food-oriented toys to help him pace himself and have a little fun while he eats.

Diesel does enjoy spending his days independently laying in his yard soaking up the sun, but would much rather hang out with you while you watch your favourite shows or do your office work from home. From what we have seen at the shelter, Diesel does tend to prefer to have very polite and proper introductions to new people involving lots of treats!!

This goofy boy is a sucker for loving, and will adorably shuffle his way over to you while his bum wiggles a mile a minute! He listens really well to the staff here, and overall been very well behaved for us during his stay. He will do anything for some food!
Diesel does have some reactivity with some dogs through barriers, and could use some assistance to help manage this. He has been very good while we have been working on this, and shows great improvement! Mr. Diesel also has had some really wonderful interactions with some dogs while being in our care, and we noticed he does tend to prefer the smaller ladies!
However Diesel does struggle with some resource guarding behaviours around other pets, and would be best off in a home as the only pet. Not to say he couldn’t have great friends, but we do think Diesel would be more comfortable this way!

Diesel would do best in a home where he has access to a large fenced in area that he can safely roam. We would also recommend a home with zero or very minimal stairs for this boy to accommodate his medical concerns, as he does have Bilateral Shoulder Osteochondrosis. Diesel will need a home that is able to provide ongoing medical care and management for this condition and adopters should make sure they research this condition prior to applying. We would be happy to discuss this further with potential adopters! You are welcome to call the branch to discuss Diesel further if he sounds like a match, or apply online here:
