Meet Burton

Add to favourites

This boy’s journey through the East Kootenay Animal Community Centre has not been an easy one. He arrived here nameless, reported to have been hanging around a local dump for a while. Burton was a stray being fed by some concerned community members but the rest of his story is a complete mystery. Sweet Burt was very shut down when he arrived here. Having had to fend for himself for an unknown amount of time, it was difficult for him to trust us and to know that we were there to keep him safe. He would spend his days hidden in his safe spot in his kennel, offering a hiss or two to let us know how he was feeling but never lashing out at us.

A communicative and kindhearted soul – Burton slowly opened up to volunteers and staff who would sit with him, reading him books and spending time with him so that he could become used to our presence. As the magic of behavior modification unfolded before our very eyes, Burton’s personality began to reveal itself more and more each day! Staff have noted in recent animal care notes that Burton has begun offering morning greeting stretches and word on the street is we’ve even gotten a purr or two from him!!!! As our incredible volunteers dedicated their time to showing Burton just how great humans can be, we have learned just how much Burton looooves a good cheek massage.

It has taken quite some time for Burton to trust each new human he meets but we do know one thing is for sure – this sweet boy no longer wants to have to fend for himself. He has done that for what seems like quite a long time and he’s ready to live the cozy indoor life he has always deserved. Now that he has learned how comfortable life can be when you’re wet food is freshly hand delivered alongside some good ol’ chin scritches – there’s no going back for him! Burtons favorite things so far include enjoying a good stretched out nap in his hiding box and rolling around in some good ol’ catnip bathed toys. We can’t wait to continue discovering Burton’s unique personality and look forward to introducing him to a dedicated owner who is ready to shower Burton in all of the indoor love he deserves!

We are open to the public 1:00-4:00 Tuesday to Sunday or alternatively you can apply online:
