Meet Diesel

Add to favourites

Look! Up in the sky!
Its a bird! Its a plane!
Its Diesel!!!

Meet our gentle giant Diesel!
This beautiful man is finally ready to have a place of his own where he can enjoy his retirement and easy going lifestyle. Diesel is an incredibly lovely dog who brings nothing but joy to those who he meets. Sitting at 140 pounds, this goofy guy could be confused for a pony and has lovingly earned the title “horse dog.”
He seems to be aware of just how large he is, and has gotten really great at not jumping up!
He loves to give you his paw when hes awaiting goodies, so you know he can surely perform tricks for a snack! He eats his food like a champion, and has really benefited from having a slow feeder/puzzle feeders available to him!

Diesel does have some reactivity with other larger dogs through barriers, and could use some assistance to help manage this. He has had a few positive interactions with some of the other shelter dogs here, but does tend to prefer the smaller ones hes met.
Diesel also loves to play with his similarly sized sister! They have been known to play on the rougher side, and our big friend does seem to forget his size just for a moment! We would recommend working with an Animal Kind trainer to help him have ongoing positive interactions with any potential canine friends!

Due to his size and history in his previous home, Diesel really enjoys spending his days laying in the grassy yard soaking in the sun, and is happy to be independently outside. From what we have seen at the shelter, Diesel does seem to have stranger danger and reactivity towards men he doesn’t know, and could use some training to help strengthen his skills meeting unfamiliar people in his future.

This goofy boy is a sucker for some love, and will adorably shuffle his way over to you while his bum wiggles a mile a minute! He listens really well, but could use some fine tuning on his recall! He has overall been very well behaved for us and knows when you’re talking to him.
This sweet guy is wonderfully potty trained, and awaits his turn so patiently in the mornings to go out! We couldn’t say enough about how lovely this big guys is!

He would do best in a home where he has access to a large fenced in area that he can safely roam. We would also recommend a home with zero or very minimal stairs for this boy to accommodate his medical concerns, as he does have Bilateral Shoulder Osteochondrosis. Diesel will need a home that is able to provide ongoing medical care and management for this condition and adopters should make sure they research this condition prior to applying. We would be happy to discuss this further with potential adopters! You are welcome to call the branch to discuss Diesel further if he sounds like a match.
