Hamsters got their name from the German word “hamstern” which means “to hoard” or “to stockpile”, which is a beloved hobby of our little hamster friends!

Elka Ostrovsky (named for a character played by the late, great, Betty White!) is looking for a home to call her own. This baby girl is still learning about the world, and how she fits into it. She will need a home where she will have lots of love and enrichment to keep her healthy and happy. She especially loves burrowing, and running on her wheel! Hamsters are nocturnal, and little Elka does not enjoy being woken up from her beauty rest. She will give a hiss to tell people to let her sleep if she’s disturbed during the day. When she’s up and about, she’s quite friendly and easy to handle as long as people move slowly and gently. Like all hamsters she loves treats, but not too many or she will get a bit too round!
