Meet Charles

Add to favourites

Charles and his buddies need a home of their own! Charles came into care in July 2021 with his friends Inky (ID#503242), Timbit (ID#503243) and Mama (ID#503241). These pigs were all very overweight which limited their hearing and vision, had overgrown hooves and tusks, and were very itchy from mites. Since then Charles and his buddies have been working on losing weight and becoming comfortable around people, doing lots of enrichment activities and positive reinforcement training! While at first Charles had trouble just standing up and walking around, he now loves to go out and explore the barn yard every day! He is the excavator of the group and absolutely loves to dig holes in the dirt. He would be the perfect garden digging assistant – quite possibly the cutest roto-tiller you ever did see!

Charles and his friends all live together currently and would like to be adopted as a group so they can be together in their new home too! There is also a possibility of adopting their neighbour Greta (ID#532121) along with them; these five pigs originally came into care together but Greta needed her own space for a while, so she would need to live separately in their new home until she could be gradually reintroduced to the group.

Due to their continuing recovery from obesity and shyness around people, these pigs will need an experienced guardian who can continue their weight loss journey with them, and work with them to further gain confidence around people.

If you are interested in giving these pigs a home, please fill out an adoption application at: https://spca.bc.ca/adoption/equine-farm-animal-adoption-application-form/

Please ensure that your municipality allows you to have pigs and that you have appropriate indoor and outdoor space and fencing for pigs. These pigs are very clean and currently live in a stall with outdoor access during the day, which they thoroughly enjoy when the weather is good! They prefer to do their business outside, but overnight they have a “litterbox” area of shavings away from their straw nest where they go when nature calls.
