Meet Simon, Burt, & Paul

Add to favourites

A family of three boys who have been in our care for far too long and are ready for their forever home! Paul (hooded), Simon (dark brown), and Burt (gingerish) were separated from their owner who was on business in the states when the pandemic closed the borders. Due to employment obligation the owner couldn’t return home, and that left the boys without their guardian!

All three boys are very interested in people and will rush to the front of the cage to greet you. Paul and Burt seek out and enjoy cuddles and scritches, but Simon takes a little more time to warm up. He finds hands reaching in for pets to be scary but will happily come and climb on an extended arm or leg. They have made amazing progress over the last several months and are much more tolerant of handling and perching on shoulders. During free roam time they love to climb all over and will sometimes even fall asleep in your lap, hood or a bonding pouch.

The boys are about 10 months old, and, because of their hormonal reactions to the presence of female ratties in shelter, are housed in foster care. They must go together to a home without female rats, or history of female rats marking in house. They will also require a guardian who is familiar with rat behavior as they have occasional scuffles when free roaming that have the potential to turn into larger fights.

They are used to a large double critter nation cage and options of daily free roaming. They are also litter trained!

During the current COVID-19 pandemic our adoption process has changed. All adoptions are by appointment only once we have received an application. Please contact the shelter by phone or email (604-574-1711; surrey@spca.bc.ca) for an application to make this group of boys a new addition to your family!
