Meet everyone’s favourite guy, Mr Green! Mr Green is a Mealy Amazon parrot estimated to be around 35-40 years old. His true age has been lost over time, as he has been rehomed several times throughout his life. Mealy Amazons can live 60-80 years in human care, which means this handsome gentleman could easily have decades ahead of him.

Because of that, we are looking for a very specific forever home. Mr Green will need an experienced large parrot guardian, or someone who has done extensive research and is fully prepared for the realities of living with an Amazon. His ideal home will provide regular avian vet care, daily enrichment, consistent human interaction, a high quality and diverse diet, and of course lots of love and patience.

Mr Green is intelligent, sensitive, and very much an Amazon. He can be a bit of a biter, as any parrot can be. Biting is a natural form of communication for birds, so a strong understanding of parrot body language is a must. He is very clear when he does not want to step up or when he has had enough petting. Respecting his boundaries is key to building trust. That said, once you are in his good books, he absolutely melts for under the chin scritches.

He tries his very best to fly, but sadly he cannot and will simply drop to the floor with a dramatic thud. Because of this, his home will need to be set up thoughtfully for safety. What he lacks in flight, he makes up for in climbing skills. He is an expert climber and loves navigating his space vertically.

While adopting any animal is a big commitment, adopting a large parrot who could potentially outlive you is an even bigger one. These birds are emotionally complex, highly intelligent, and deeply bonded to their people. We are committed to finding Mr Green a stable, permanent home where he will never have to start over again.
