The
BC SPCA has launched an Adoption Challenge. With shelters
full of healthy, adoptable animals looking for new homes, we are
challenging BC communities to focus on adopting animals the month
of September. Whether a dog, cat, guinea pig, rabbit (or other
animal) consider adopting from one of our shelters.
The
Society is also creating a friendly challenge between our SPCA
Branches to see which shelter adopts the most animals.
Why
adopt a shelter animal?
-
We
have fabulous animals that just happen to be going through a
transitional phase in their lives.
-
Shelter
animals have many added value features: they are vaccinated,
health checked, microchipped, and most are spayed or neutered
-- plus many shelters
are able to offer free flea control, collars and other
valuable necessities. You also get an adoption kit with
care information and a copy of our magazine AnimalSense
featuring more information about animal issues. What a deal!
-
Every
time an animal is adopted from one of our shelters it makes
room for another animal in need. The sooner we get the animals
into permanent homes the better for the animals. Our staff and
volunteers also say thank you, thank you, thank you a lot.
-
Shelter
environments are not like someone's home. Living in a shelter
can be stressful so the sooner they are rehomed the better. We
also like to see their tails wag as they leave.
-
We
save precious donor dollars by adopting animals as soon as we
can. These funds can then go toward our mission work that
includes spay/neuter programs, rescuing animals, enforcing
animal cruelty and humane education -- all issues that
motivate our staff and volunteers!
-
Indirectly,
adopting shelter animals helps reduce the demand for
puppy-mill bred dogs and from backyard commercial breeding
operations. We don't like puppy mills.
-
By
adopting a shelter animal you are giving an animal a second
chance while benefiting from a life-long relationship of
unconditional love. Brings a tear to our eye -- really.

Not
Ready or Can't Adopt?
You can still support the animals by donating. The BC SPCA has incurred huge expenses this summer
with the fire crisis in the Interior and desperately need your
support. See BC SPCA NEWS
for details.
